Pressure Gauge Syphons

Purpose and Function

• A syphon (or siphon) is a crucial protective device used in pressure measurement systems.
• Its primary function is to protect the pressure gauge from the damaging effects of high-temperature media, such as steam.
• It creates a condensate trap, allowing a cooler liquid (like condensed steam) to form a barrier.
• This barrier prevents hot media from directly reaching the gauge’s sensitive internal components, which can cause failure or inaccurate readings.
• It also helps to dampen pressure surges and pulsations.

What is a Pressure Gauge Syphon?

Description & Application

Description:
Features a full “U” bend. This simple design creates a deep and reliable liquid seal, offering excellent protection.

Real-Life Application:
Ideal for vertical pipe installations where the pressure tap is on the side or top of the main pipe. Commonly used in steam boiler applications.

Specification:
Provides a substantial barrier of condensate, effectively isolating the gauge from high temperatures. Must be filled with water or another suitable liquid before installation.
Materials: Stainless Steel (SS 304 / SS 316), Carbon Steel (CS), Brass.
